[30 Days of Fic - Day 8] "Gone"
Jun. 11th, 2011 03:28 pmSomething is wrong.
I took my mid afternoon nap and woke to find that my person was not home yet. I prowled around the house, stopping for some water and kibble, looking for her, but she wasn't home. Not in our night napping place, not out back where the sun rises and makes me warm when I'm napping in the morning. Not out front. Not where the food is.
I heard a sound and moved over to the side window. The vile beasts across the yard were descending more deeply into their standard wild savagery than they would tend to. I peered to see if there was prey distracting them, and there wasn't. I watched a few moments and nothing changed. One of the beasts noticed me and looked rather than making the insufferable sounds. Something was definitely wrong.
I moved back to the front of the house and pressed my nose against the screen. There were no metal machines. No persons. Just natural sounds that had become so very unfamiliar since I came together with my person. I slipped onto the window seat and got more comfortable, looking out at the place where she kept her metal machine. I watched, listening to the wind, and the chirping critters and all the little things out there.
I slept. As is my wont.
I woke again and her metal machine wasn't there. The lights in the darkness weren't on either. The beasts across the way sounded even worse.
Where are our people?
