Jeremiah carefully rifled through the bags for a third time. First he made sure that his portable DVD player had been packed with enough t-shirts to protect it. Then he double-checked that he had packed the right deodorant. He wasn't even sure that he was looking for anything particular this time, but it seemed like the thing to do; who would want to leave something behind?

"Are you set to go?" Jessie's voice made him jump out of his skin. She just had that way of appearing as if out of know it. Her daddy used to call it her 'ghost steps' but the joke had lost its savor after he died at the plant.

"As ready as I'll ever be." He tightened the drawstring, then buckled the flap on the over-sized army surplus duffle and turned to face her; she'd dressed herself up (or down as it were) in cutoffs and a little tanktop that exposed her tanned midriff. Her blond locks pinned up into pigtails and she was wearing a cheap pair of orange-tinted Buddy Holly sunglasses. "Now that isn't fair."

"You leaving me home, all alone in Nebraska without my bestie?" She had a killer pout and was using it to great effect in that moment, so much so that he almost didn't notice the step back she'd taken, quietly closing the door behind her in the process. "Abandoning me for the BIG exciting city."

"That's even less fair." It had been one of the hardest decisions of his life to go to move to Chicago for school, leaving everything he knew to start over. Leaving her.

She stepped into him, the pert swell of her breasts pressing through tanktop and t-shirt both. "I know it's not." Her voice was a low murmur that was apologetic and enticing at the same time. He felt her arms slide around him, one hand at the small of his back while the other pulled the duffle off the bed.

It hit the floor with a low thud.

"I hope you didn't break my DVD player."

She tilted her chin upward, kissing a soft line down his jaw, slipping her soft fingers up the back of his shirt and suddenly it didn't much matter anymore.

I think it's nice the way it is! Happy, a little angsty, and hot.
